Bridal Shower Games and a Serious Note

Remember that wedding I’m a bridesmaid in? There’s a shower this weekend and I’m in charge of games. Which is sort of funny to me because I hate half the bridal/shower games out there, but then I realized – I like competitive games! So I was tasked with  2-3 games. Here’s what I have so far:

Bridal Shower Bingo – I just made this up, though I plan on googling it later because I know I can’t be the only person to think of this. My plan is to make different sheets and hand out a the beginning so people play throughout the shower. The squares can be both things and actions, so you can force yourself to get a square if you need to – i.e “tears” or “someone eating cake” or “the bride blushes”

Famous couples – we did this at my shower, and I won, actually. I like to win, so I saw no problem stealing this one. It’s really simple in theory. Everyone gets a sheet of paper and names every famous fictional couple they can think of. I’m thinking of limiting it to movies, and you’d have to name the movie. Either the most within X amount of time wins, or the first person to 10 wins. I haven’t decided yet.

I need a third one. I was thinking bridal mad libs, but I’m not sure there’s a clear winner there. I realize these games are supposed to be fun and winning isn’t supposed to matter, but let’s be real here. And I want them to actually be fun! (If I go to one more baby shower where someone thinks melting a plastic baby in an ice cube is fun I might yell. Seriously?)

On a more serious note, a fellow bridesmaid in this wedding was hurt in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. She was knocked unconscious and has been in a coma ever since. While it’s my understand that initially they weren’t sure if she would wake up, she’s making incredible progress and is able to move and respond, even though she is still in a “sleep” state.

This news was an incredible and shocking reminder that life is short. So in addition to giving someone you love an extra hug, remember to be safe while you’re driving – both for your sake, and for others on the road. I don’t know the details of the accident, but I know it reminded me that I could always try a little harder to be more aware of my surroundings, and to slow down more.

As you can imagine, my fellow ‘maid and her family are looking at a long road to recovery. If you feel compelled to donate, you can do so via paypal to the email kimberly.morgan0712@yahoo.com. Even if it’s just a small amount it could really help.
